Veteran actor Adebayo Salami, popularly known as Oga Bello is planning big for the celebration of his 50th year in the entertainment industry. The Kwara state born actor who doubles as a movie producer has picked September 25th and 28th for the celebration of his landmark achievement which has seen him become one of the most successful actors of his generation.
The celebration would kick off on 25th of September 2014, at the Agip Recital hall of the Muson centre, Onikan Lagos, with a stage play titled “Oloko Oba” (King’s Name sake) and the grand party will hold on Sunday September 28th at Time Square event centre Ikeja Lagos. According to Oga Bello, “it feels good to look back and see how far I’ve come and it sure calls for celebration.
The stage play is directed by Abiodun Abbey and it x-rays the story of a wicked king who derives pleasure in terrorising his people. He eventually found out about a young man who bears the same name with him, he got upset and said the man should be beheaded. The young man in his wisdom saved himself by asking the king a simple question he could not answer. It’s an interesting story but don’t intend to say it all now. The stage play is for a selected guest of 200 dignitaries that would include politicians, brand executives, businessmen, veteran movie stars, and the media”
The stage play would subsequently lead to the grand finale of the celebrations scheduled to hold on Sunday September 28th 2014, at Time square event centre, Ikeja Lagos. Oga Bello’s 50 years on stage celebration is packaged by AO21 media led byAfolabi Oyekoya.
ABOUT OGA BELLO
Adebayo Salami was born on May 9 1953, in Lagos. He started acting in 1964 at the age of 11 with Youngstar concert groupled by the late Ojo Ladipo. The group was later transformed to Ojo Ladipo theatre group and then Awada kerikeri group.
In 1978, the mantle of leadership was passed on to Adebayo Salami, after Ojo Ladipo’s death. He led the group till the early 90s and became popularly playing significant roles in the Awada kerikeri, a TV drama that got many people glued to their TV set in the 70’s. The advent of home videos led other members of the group to start independent productions, thus he formed his own company called “UB Media Network” in 1993.
He produced his first celluloid movie titled Ogun Ajaye in 1975, then “Omo Orukan” in 1987, and “Eri Okan” in 1989. In the early 90’s, he joined the home video train and produced a blockbuster movie titled “Asewo To’re mecca”. He has since produced over 18 movies including Agbaara Obirin, Ilu le, Oko (stone), Gbemisola and others. Oga Bello has played lead role in over 100 movies and still very relevant in the Yoruba movie industry. Few of his children have followed his footstep and are doing well in their chosen career. They are Femi Adebayo, Sodiq Adebayo and Rilwan Adebayo
3RD EDITION OF LEGEND OF NOLLYWOOD AWARDS HOLDS, DECEMBER 6TH
The third edition of “Legends Of Nollywood”, an annual award ceremony aimed at recognizing and honouring great individuals that have shaped the Nigerian movie industry is scheduled to hold on December 6th 2014, at theBanquet hall of National Arts Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos.
The Legends of Nollywood (LON) has become one of the most celebrated events in the Nigeria movie industry today, this is based on the fact that the organizers have been able to acknowledge and appreciate the important roles and achievements of the trailblazers that shaped the Nigerian movie industry. The show has maintained its status and credibility over the years and has been applauded by industry pundits and the general public.
According to Mr. Paul Obazele, the brain behind the awards ceremony, Legends of Nollywood has become a brand everyone wants to associate with. “The Nigerian movie industry has had a rich history as a result of the untiring zeal and creativity of the trailblazers who overcame enormous odds and challenges to birth an industry that has gained global recognition.
The Legends and veterans of the industry are known as the “Legends of Nollywood”. They have been successful in writing their names on the hall of fame and need to be recognized and acknowledged for their body of work.
The need to appreciate these visionaries led to the creation of the Legends of Nollywood awards. It is a time to pay glowing tribute to the great personalities and programmes that provided the capacity that has helped to form and shape our industry and a time to celebrate the truly memorable and greatest achievements in our motion picture history. They have blessed us with their gifts and talents. Talents that have inspired generations and have continually raised new stars. There are so many heroes that do not need to pass on before we start to honour them. Nollywood would not be what it is today if these people had not put in what they had.”
Besides the award ceremony, several other activities have been lined up for this year's event. On December 4th and 5th there will be an autograph signing event by some top Nollywood stars and a movie show for the less privileged at Cinema 1 and 2 of the National ArtsTheatre , Iganmu, Lagos.
Paul Obazele in a press statement added that " We hereby request for your support (Government, media and cooperate organisations) to extend a hand of fellowship by participating in this remarkable line up of activities for the “Legends of Nollywood” where stars of all ages and legends of the Nigerian movie industry will come on the red carpet to meet their teeming fans, sign autographs, present souvenirs and dine with the less privileged and the physically challenged”.
