Nelson Mandela was born in the tiny village of Mvezo in Transkiei South Africa.
Mandela was born Rolihlahla Mandela, but was given the name Nelson by his school teacher.
Mandela was 9 years when he lost his father and was later adopted by Chief Jongintaba Dalindyeb.
Mandela is often known as Mandiba which was his traditional clan name.
